It is my great honour and privilege to stand here today and give you a brief overview of the exercise. Exercise TSHWARAGANO II is a combined bilateral Battalion level Peace Support Operations (PSO) exercise between the two neighbouring states, the Republic of Botswana and the Republic of Namibia to improve the joint cooperation between Botswana Defence Force (BDF) and Namibian Defence Force (NDF).

This Joint Training Exercise is a continues implementation event, resulting from the 22nd Session of Botswana /Namibia Joint Permanent Commission on Defence and Security (JPCDS) held in Gaborone, Botswana from 13th to 18th November 2012, the Roadmap III for the Operationalisation of the African Standby Force of November 2011 and the Resolution of the Botswana/Namibia Permanent Commission on Defence and Security (JPC) held in Kasane, Botswana from 2017.

Thus, Ladies and Gentlemen, EX-TSHWARAGANO II is a culmination of EX-TSHWARAHANO I held at Ghanzi in Botswana in 2014 and EX-HANGANEE I held at Gobabis in Namibia in 2016. The exercise design is based on Peace Support Operation (PSO) in order to provide a climax to training and capacity building in order to evaluate the effectiveness of Southern Africa Development Community Standby Force (SADCSF) in any given Peace Support Operation mandated by African Union (AU) and United Nations (UN).
